Dean Jacobs Motors to Wayne County Speedway; Drown, Hensel Jr., Staley Add To Wins

For the first time ever, the FAST on Dirt Sprint Series rolled into Wayne County Speedway on Santmyer Energy night with Wooster’s Dean Jacobs leading all the way to pocket the $3,000 winners share plus a drum of methanol gas from Santmyer Energy as he posted his third win of the season and padded his Pine Tree Towing & Recovery Sprint points lead in the O’Reilly Auto Parts ‘Race to the Championship.’ Setting fast time and finishing second in his heat race, Jacobs would draw the #2 pill to start the 25 lap feature on the outside front row along side Clay Riney. Before the first lap was complete, Trevor Baker would spin to force a restart with Jacobs grabbing the point. The caution would slow the action on lap three when Max Stambaugh, Andrew Palker and Cale Conley would get tangled up in turn four with Stambaugh the only one not able to continue. As the race went back to green, Jacobs was able to put some distance on the field as Riney, Tyler Gunn, T J Michael and Cole Duncan changed positions on each lap. Gunn and Riney sliced and diced for second and on lap 8 they would rub tires with Riney’s car stopping with a flat tire, that would be changed. Michael and Duncan powered past Gunn on the restart as Lee Jacobs moved into fifth as Dean Jacobs would dash off with the lead. The last yellow flag would wave at the halfway mark for Ray Miller. Once again Dean Jacobs and his Harbach Electronics, B & B Drain Service and McClure Motorsports #9 would pull away from the field to go on for the win. Michael would solidify himself in second on the last restart and for the second week in a row, take home the runner up position. Meanwhile, Duncan and Lee Jacobs continued their run for third with Duncan claiming third at the finish followed by Lee Jacobs with Gunn filling out the top five. Jordan Harble was the driver on the move as he started 22nd and finished 7th for the Hard Charger. Heat winners were Gunn, Palker and Russ Sansosti.

J R Gentry jumped into the lead from his fourth starting spot before the field got to the back stretch and he would quickly open up a big lead as Doug Drown moved into second on lap three of the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Model feature. With a half a straightaway advantage, Gentry was clicking off the laps but as he crossed the line with five circuits to go, the power plant in his #14 went sour and he would come to a stop on the back stretch. Gentry would go to the pits and come back on the track, but the motor would not keep running and he would return to the pits, ending his chances of the win. Wooster’s Doug Drown would inherit the lead and drive the Ely Road Reel Company, Wooster Glass and ABR Farms #12 into the Summit Racing victory lane for the fifth time this season and picked a $200 gift certificate from Santmyer Energy while bumping up his points lead. Ryan Markham finished second from his 7th starting position to pick up the Kar Connection Hard Charger award. Brad Malcuit ended up third with Jerry Aber and Larry Bellman finishing with their season best of fourth and fifth. Markham and Drown notched the heat wins.

Brandon Craver and Gary Hensel Jr. would lead the McKenzie Concrete Super Stock feature to the green flag and stay side by side on the opening lap but a caution on lap two slowed the action as John Wilson got sideways in turn one, collecting a couple of other cars including points leader Doug Drown. Wilson’s night was over as Drown made a quick stop in the pits, putting him to the tail. On the double file restart, Hensel Jr. would out race Craver into turn one and take the lead with Seth Dickerson in third. Hensel Jr., of Apple Creek, could never build more than a three car length lead over Craver during this run, Drown was picking his way through the field and took third from Dickerson on lap 12. Driving the Lochevale Farms, D J Services and Lorentz Landscaping #28h, Hensel Jr. collected his third win of the season as Craver held off the fast closing Drown for second. Dickerson scored his season best fourth place while Nick Humphrey rounded out the top five. Drown and Hensel Jr. added to their heat win totals.

Wes Staley would lead all the way in the JOYRIDE Transport Mini Stock main but he never had any breathing room as points leader Doug Hensel would try everything he could to get around the Canton based, B J Performance, Thirsty Cowboy and Paul Davis Construction #73s but would come up short. For Staley, this would be his third points win and fourth overall. In a three way race for third, Brad Hensel would keep Wyatt Zimmerman at bay for third in the closing laps while Colton St. John wound up fifth. Anthony Collins, Doug Hensel and Zimmerman topped the heat races.

All racers were once again vying for the Contingency Connection ‘Racer’s Rewards’ prizes for the night and yearly awards.

Next Saturday night, August 10th will be Kid’s Night and a Fast Four racing program that will feature the McKenzie Concrete Super Stocks going for the Danny Gardner Memorial with a 27 lap feature, $2,700 to win feature with a $100 entry fee. The Pine Tree Towing & Recovery Sprints, the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Models and the JOYRIDE Transport Mini Stocks will be in action also.
