Smith Takes Win #2

DeGraff OH (5/12/18): Shady Bowl Speedway was able to fend off the weather and treat fans to a great night of racing Saturday. The Dave Nagel Excavating Late Models were on hand to run a thirty five lap feature. Rookie Matt Jackson led the field to the green. Jackson led parade until fellow rookie of the year canidate Nic Burnside surged by. It was last weeks winner Josh Smith of Quincy the next to lead the way. Smith led the balance of the race in his Jamie Hunt Motorsports backed ride to notch his second straight win. Fast qualifier Don Mahaffey Jr. was second, with Jim Lewis Jr. third, Mike Ward fourth and Jackson fifth. Burnside was the dash winner with Lewis taking the heat checker.

The street stock main turned out to be a great race that had the fans on their feet and cheering their favorite driver. Jacob Muncy was leading as the field took the white flag in the 25 lap feature. Buck Purtee and Rodney Roush made it a three car battle going into turn three. The trio came upon lapped traffic with Purtee making a charge to take the lead from Muncy in his Jordon’s Country Diner Mercury. Purtee held the lead to the checker followed by Muncy, Roush, John Hicks and Richard Roush. It was a clean sweep for Purtee as he was also fast qualifier and won the dash. Chris Abbott took the heat honors.

Columbus driver Ryan Tamburro held off a late race challenge from Justin Pope to take the feature win in the Buckeye FWD division. The win was the first win for Tamburro in his American Hauling Cavalier.

Tamburro also set quick time. Pope, Jordon Sage, Justin Kemp and Andrea Swink rounded out the top five.

Dayton driver Jordan South held the checker after he won the spectator drags.

The Hangar 18 Hobby Stock race saw DeGraffs Jason Purtee win his second race of the season. Steve Fowler was second. Elgin Industries added a $500.00 certificate good for engine parts.

This Saturday (May 19) will be car load night. All fans in each car load will be admitted for $30.00 per car, no matter how many are in the car. So pack up the neighbors and pile them in the car for just $30.00 for an evening of fun in the grandstand side.

Racing starts at 7. The Modifieds, Street Stocks, Hangar 18 Hobby Stocks, Buckeye FWD Mini Stocks and Spectator Drags will battle.
