Emerson wins thriller at Dubuque Speedway


Dubuque, Iowa - Sunday night racing action was held with the action providing fans with plenty of side by side thrilling racing. The headliner of the night was the 25-lap Out Pace Racing Products Late Model feature which saw several lead changes on the very fast high banked 3/8 mile clay track. The fast groove moved around several times throughout the main event which challenged the drivers to find the fastest line. Waterloo, Iowa's John Emerson was involved in an early race skirmish and was forced to restart at the tail, but the determined Emerson fought his way back to the front and used a late race restart to shoot back by leader Lyle Klein and go on to score the thrilling feature win. Klein earned a hard fought second ahead of Joel Callahan.

The Merfeld Brothers Auto IMCA Modifieds feature was another nail biter as several drivers took their turns at the front. Bryce Garnhart battled with Austin Moyer for much of the 20 lap main event before crossing under the checkers ahead of Moyer. Last weeks feature winner, Jason Schueller turned in another fine run in taking third.

Defending IMCA National Sportmod Champion Tyler Soppe, scored the feature win in the 18 lap GSI Collision Specialists Sportmod main event. Soppe fought to the front from a 4th row start to score the win ahead of early leader Justin Becker. Scott Busch followed up last weeks win with a third place finish.

Lee Kinsella duplicated his season opening win with a another trophy run on Sunday night in the Limited Late Model class. Kinsella fought off several challenges from Jamie Pfeiffer in taking the win. Pat Quinn drove his 00Q to third place on Sunday night.

The Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway will not see any racing on Sunday, May 13th as that date will serve as a rain date for the Super Modified Weekend at the Farley Speedway. Racing will resume on Sunday May 20th with a full program of racing plus the American Iron Racing Series will be in action.
