Many of us who were “around” in the late 1960’s thought the crisis involving the “Rising Cost Of Musclecar Insurance” would kill the muscle car. (It helped!) Then, in the early 1970’s, it was thought that the first “Energy Crisis” (Doubled gas prices, long lines and rationing) would kill all performance cars. (It didn’t.) Next, it was the infamous “Muskie Bill,” greatly tightened federal safety and emissions regulations that were said to be the demise of performance. (It came close, but “no cigar!”) Today, we’re paying a national average of $2.50 per gallon for low octane, unleaded gasoline, and prices are rising every week.
